Tolerates low light and abuse.
The date palm can become a 12-foot tree, but it normally takes many years before it begins to form a trunk. This palm grows best in diffused light, and usually does best in an east window with morning sun. If the plants should show signs of leaf burn, move it a few feet from. the window, or put sheer curtains over the glass.
Maintenance: Low
Soil Types: widely adaptable, but prefers a sandy, well-drained soil mix with lots of nutrients.
Water: Requires average watering needs; Do not over water; Water thoroughly about once a week.
Fertilizing: Fertilize three to four times a year using a 12-4-12 analysis palm fertilizer: February/March, June, September, and November. If you fertilize only twice, do so in the spring and fall. Fall application is important to bring palms through possible cold. The spring application will supply nutrients for the new growth.
