What is a Hydroponic Grow Box System?

A hydroponics system or also know as grow box is a device that is used in growing crops inside a closed contained environment. Generally, grow boxes are used in indoor gardening in which little or no soil is needed to grow the plants. Grow boxes are very convenient for gardeners who themselves do not have a patch of soil to grow in, or by those who lives in high-rise condos who do not have the luxury of having their outdoor garden. Also, a grow box is popular to gardeners who are growing crops all year round and wish to grow plants out of season. In places where winter is principally the climate, the use of grow box is also popular since it allows people in such area to grow off season crops. These hydroponic grow box systems in general is very convenient to use and it also allows the gardener to customize the inside environment to make it conducive for a certain crop to grow optimally.

With the word box itself gives you an idea what a grow box looks like. A hydroponic grow box is characteristically an enclosed system and it contains a built in hps light, intake and exhaust fan, hydroponics system, and odor control system. The hps light inside the grow box serves as the artificial sunlight that helps plants inside the box with photosynthesis. Intake and exhaust fan is also installed to control the temperature inside the grow box since temperature also plays a vital role in the development of plants. Hydroponic system or water system is the one that gives the nutrients required by the plants inside a grow box. In addition, an odor control system is also installed to minimize the smell that comes with fertilizers and other composts stuff which is part of plant growing.

There are also advance grow box units that also includes air conditioning as well as CO2 generators. They have included in these installation to fully maximize the capacity of a hydroponic grow box. They use air conditioning to have better control over the temperature and keep running temperatures down. As for the CO2 generators, it increases CO2 level inside a grow box which assists the plant to use the excess water and energy that is stored in the leaves. As a result there is substantial increase in the growth rate of crops that uses chlorophyll in the process of photosynthesis with the help of CO2 generators installed inside a grow box.

Grow boxes are becoming more and more popular these days as it allows people to grow gardens inside their homes with a hassle free kind of work. Hydroponic grow box system is also used in agricultural research as this allows researchers to have full control over their experiments. Even young generations are now keen on indoor gardening as a hobby. Aside for its eco-friendly characteristic, a hydroponic grow box can be a good indoor decoration which adds beauty and glamour to the interiors of your homes. This is why grow boxes are preferred by those who lives in the city yet wishes to blend a little nature in their city lives.

I had a student in my class ask this question, and I didn’t know the answer. Once desertification takes over land, can the land be brought back?
