How Do You Skin Mexican Fan Palms?
Living in So. Cal. my whole life I have seen a lot of palm trees and I know that it is much more beautiful to ’skin’ a palm tree such as the mexican and california fan palm rather than just cut off the fronds. I have done it myself but with not much luck. I used a machete and got most of the fibers off but it took the longest time, and I also hacked a little bit into the trunk while doing it. There is a question similiar to mine on yahoo questions and the only reply was from a guy that asked in a suprised manner “You do not have a skinning machine? They are so quick!” The only reason I bring this up is that I have seen the work of professionals and you can see a uniform fashion in how the fronds were skinned off the trunk. If the guy was not being facetious, and there is such a machine I would like to know a little more about it. If not then what are these Mexicans doing to quickly and perfectly skin these fan palms? Any advice would be great.
Thanks.
